custom freezer food packaging
If you’ve been dreaming about the perfect packaging for your ice cream bars, we can help. ePac has worked with various vendors over the years, and we’ve created some vibrant, sustainable frozen meal packaging that stands out both on the shelf and in the freezer aisle. Because we’re a digital company, there are no plate fees, and brands can splash their packaging top to bottom, giving their customers an accurate snapshot of who they are and why they stand out against the competition.
What are the Types of Frozen Food Packaging?
Everyone’s got food in their freezers. Now, the question is, do they have your frozen food option down there among the peas and cans of orange juice concentrate? When packaging fresh frozen food, you need an option that will keep for a long time and maintain structural integrity.
When food is frozen, food expands up to 9% depending on internal moisture. Frozen food packaging material needs to be strong but also flexible.
Frozen meal packaging should be able to withstand freezing temperatures between zero degrees to -40 degrees. We suggest using options like our stand-up pouch or a lay flat packaging, both created with non-barrier materials. Our packaging is strong but puncture-resistant, which is critical during low-temperature transportation, storage, and handling.
Flexible bags for frozen food packaging need to highlight some particular traits, which should be:
- Easy to fill and seal
- Easy storable
- Moisture resistant
- Made of strong materials
- Grease, oil, and water resistant
- Constructed of FDA food-grade substrates
What films are used or can be used for frozen food?
Different foods require different variances; polyethylene (PE) shrink film can resist temperatures down to -40 degrees. PET/3.5mil White PE style bags get the job done for most foods, while PET/3.5mil Nylon PE is the better option for frozen chicken.
What are the benefits of each of those types?
Think realistically about the lives of these products; they’re made to be thrown in the freezer. If you’ve ever searched for that long-lost sleeve of hamburger patties, you know how tough freezer packaging needs to be because stuff gets shoved around.
One of the perks of working with ePac on frozen food packaging ideas is that we’ve got experience with different packaging. We’ve seen a thing or two like how white sealant provides good opacity, which hides the frozen product, so it doesn’t look all gnarly when it’s frozen. Just the same, we know frozen food packaging enough that nylon is better for puncture resistance.
Types of Frozen Food Packaging Materials with ePac
From stand-up pouches to environmentally friendly roll stock, we’ve got an option that will work for your product. There are a lot of frozen food packaging suppliers out there, and we prefer to be mindful of how to serve your product best, whether with an eco-friendly option or by creating the most prominent, boldest packaging on the market.
protective packaging for frozen products
The whole point of freezing our food is for later use. If you’re selling something frozen, your packaging must maintain the best quality so the product can last. Brands need to ensure that their packaging consists of the proper films and barriers that can preserve and protect the products inside from dehydration and oxidation, which can cause freezer burn, but look fantastic, too. And we can help with both.
frozen packaging that’s convenient
Freezer packaging is more than just “frozen bags for food.” Whether your product is packaged as single or multiple servings, features such as tear notches and resealable zippers are great additions to making the products inside durable for when customers are grabbing for those tater tots late at night.
space-saving freezer bags
One of the best things about being flexible is that because freezers demand a lot of space, you’re helping consumers maximize limited space by placing products in lightweight and flexible lay flat and stand-up pouches that give a higher product to package ratio. And add in the resealable option, and you’re off to the races. You understand if you’ve ever ripped open a bag of cheap broccoli and had to close it with a rubber band. We can do better.
stand out in the freezer aisle
There are a lot of options out there. It doesn’t matter if you sell ice cream or cold sore cream. Someone’s trying to make that dollar first. We’re a digital-first company, and thanks to that, we can print vivid, photo-quality images and graphics on your flexible packaging, allowing you to set the brand apart. No matter where your products are sold, you can create custom freezer bags that stand out.
Whatever you can dream up, we can help make it a reality. We can send your company samples of some of our work and trust us. There are brands out there innovating what packaging looks like and how it functions. (Ask us about QR codes.)

Can you put a window on frozen?
You can, but we don’t suggest it.
Are there any sustainable options for frozen?
Post-consumer packaging (PCR) is available. Otherwise, PE is too rigid.
