Meet Ian, ePac’s First Summer Intern

This summer was momentous for ePac – we had our first ever summer intern! Ian Gelerman spent the summer interning our Boston, Massachusetts plant, learning the ropes from general manager Tim Novak and the sales team while helping put on a big event: the ePac Boston grand opening party.

We took some time to chat with Ian about his experience interning with ePac. Let’s dive in.

Ian is a senior at the University of Miami studying for a Bachelors in Entrepreneurship at the University of Miami’s Business School, which made interning at ePac a perfect fit. Though Ian considered other companies for an internship, it was keeping it in the proverbial family that drew Ian to ePac. His father is a long-time friend of ePac’s CEO Jack Knott, who was all too happy to have Ian join the ePac team.

Once joined, the ePac Boston plant involved Ian in a variety of different parts of the day-to-day operations, allowing him to learn the ins and outs of how a digitally-printed flexible packaging company runs.

His main focuses were supporting the sales team and dipping his toe into the marketing world. For the sales part of his internship, Ian had the opportunity to have conversations with a variety of different small and medium-size brands about their packaging. While he had some experience working in this manner before, this was the first time he got the opportunity to put all he had learned into action.

On the marketing side, Ian had the opportunity to manage the grand opening celebration for the  Boston plant. His experience as the vice president of his fraternity played an important role in organizing and executing a great party. And that he did. Though there were some challenges, the grand opening celebration was truly a success.

Ian thought the work with ePac was challenging, but every achievement created excitement and motivation to keep him working toward the next goal.

All in all, Ian found his internship fun and rewarding. He didn’t know what to expect at first, but he connected easily with the team and found ePac to be a community-oriented, family-like workplace with friendly people who were happy to walk a “newbie” through everything. He hopes in the future to try working in sales, maybe even at ePac, and one day work as his own boss.
